August 11, 2017--9:00 a.m.
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE
Flash Flood Watch is in effect for portions much of north and central Georgia through late tonight.
Counties in the watch area include: Floyd, Gordon, Haralson, Murray, Paulding, Polk, Walker, Whitfield, Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Dawson, DeKalb, Douglas, Fannin, Fayette, Forsyth, Gilmer, Gwinnett, North Fulton, Pickens, South Fulton, Coweta, Harris, Heard, Meriwether and Troup.
Recent heavy rainfall has resulted in very wet and in some cases, saturated soil, especially in the metropolitan areas. Additional rains are expected through today as a stalled front continues to linger across portions of north central Georgia. Any rainfall over 1 to 2 inches will likely lead to flash flooding in this area.
A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
