It could be some time before we know the identity of human remains found in the Coosa River near Heritage Park.

A man fishing made the discovery Sunday afternoon about a half mile upstream from the ball fields.

Deputy Floyd County Coroner Gene Proctor said the body had been in the water no less than four months, and it is being sent to the GBI Crime Lab for identification and an autopsy.

Proctor said he saw no obvious signs of trauma and that judging from the clothing; it appears to be the remains of a male.

Recovery efforts were hampered by lightning in the area.

The body was recovered at around 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
