Rome Police Department –

Chief Denise Downer-McKinney is pleased to announce that Captain Trixie Morgan has graduated as a member of the 287th session of the FBI National Academy. The graduation took place at the National Academy in Quantico, Virginia on September 14th, 2023. Captain Morgan is the thirty-first officer in department history to complete this prestigious program. Nationally, fewer than one percent of officers have the opportunity to attend the program.

Internationally known for its academic excellence, the National Academy offers ten weeks of advanced communication, leadership, and fitness training. Participants must have proven records as professionals within their agencies to attend. On average, these officers have 21 years of law enforcement experience and usually return to their agencies to serve in executive-level positions.

The 287th session consisted of one hundred and ninety-nine law enforcement officers from 46 states and the District of Columbia. The class included members of law enforcement agencies from 21 countries, four military organizations, and three federal civilian organizations.

According to Chief Downer-McKinney, “Captain Morgan is a valuable member of the department. Her ability to make others smile in good and bad times is one of her many attributes. I am very proud of her professional accomplishments, particularly being a graduate and a member of Rome PD as we continue to always support the FBI National Academy.”

Captain Trixie Morgan began her career in law enforcement at Rome PD in 1994. She has worked in the Field Operations Bureau, was a School Resource officer, and is currently the Commander of the Training Division. As a School Resource Officer for 12 years Captain Morgan instructed in the classroom, served as a mentor, became a role model, and developed lasting relationships with members of the community that are still evident today. She continues her influence at the department’s Training Center as she works with upcoming police academy students to prepare them for classroom and specialized instruction, while also developing and maintaining the training curriculum and in-service instruction for members of the Rome PD.

Captain Morgan is a graduate of Ashford University and the proud mother of three sons and six grandchildren.
