Floyd County Schools (FCS) Class of 2023 outscored State and National averages on the SAT for the fourth consecutive year, according to results released this week by the College Board.
The FCS Class of 2023 earned an average total score of 1100 on the curriculum-based college entrance and placement exam, which exceeds the National public school average by 97 points and the State by 55 points. The impressive average score placed FCS tenth in the state.
“What an excellent accomplishment for the Class of 2023,” stated Superintendent Dr. Glenn White. “I am extremely proud of them and the joint community effort from our families and high school faculties working together for the benefit of our students and their futures. This speaks highly to the success we are achieving here in Floyd County Schools and to the success of our teachers and staff members.”
The FCS Class of 2023 average ERW score is 563 and the Math is 536. FCS students’ mean score has continued to increase each year since the 2018-19 academic year.
“I am extremely proud of Georgia’s students as they continue to beat the national average on the SAT,” State School Superintendent Richard Woods said. “This is a testament to the hard work of students and teachers, along with the families who have invested in them. It’s also confirmation that Georgia is on the right track as we continue to heavily invest in academic recovery and address lost learning opportunities for every student in every school.”
The SAT, the most commonly recognized measure of achievement for high school students, measures critical reading and mathematics abilities. It includes two 800-point sections: Evidence-Based Reading & Writing (ERW) and Mathematics (M), with a possible total score of 1600; a third section, a writing exam, is optional.
