Initial unemployment claims down in Rome

First-time claims for unemployment insurance fell in Floyd County from September to October, indicating the job market remains strong.

According to the Georgia Department of Labor, there were 156 initial claims filed last month, down from 272 the month before. That’s also down from the 277 filed in October of last year.

Claims in Bartow County were down from 197 to 158 over the month. They were also down from 230 this time last year.

Gordon County was down from 228 to 126 from September to October. There were 218 claims this time in 2022.

Chattooga County reported 211 claims last month, down from 220 in September, but up from 112 reported in October of last year.

Polk County reported 121 initial claims in October, which was up from 92 the month before and up from 117 in October of 2022.

The Georgia Department of Labor also reported that the Rome area finished October with 45,200 jobs, which is up from 44,900 in September. When compared to October of 2022, employment in the Rome area is up by 1,600 jobs.
