Ashlee Swanson has been named Floyd County Schools’ Library Media Specialist of the Year for 2024.
Ashlee is the Library Media Specialist at Alto Park Elementary School where she began her career in Floyd County Schools five years ago. During her career at Alto Park Elementary, Ms. Swanson has served in many capacities including Alto Park Elementary’s leadership team and on the FCS district reading bowl committee.
When asked about her work as a Library Media Specialist at Alto Park Elementary, Ashlee stated, “I’ve worked hard to update and fix my collection so that the media center can be used to its fullest potential. Teaching dynamic engaging lessons in the library is very important to me. I work with reading interventionists within my building to incorporate books, and engaging story resources like Novel Effect, and Accelerated Reader into the classroom. I conduct PLCs with teachers to inform them of library media center resources, show them how to access resources from the media center, and find ways to collaborate and plan together for our students. Through displays, Novel Effects, AR, and book fairs, I incorporate a love of reading into the school culture. I also regularly use data to inform my purchasing decisions and help students be independent library users. I am constantly committed to making my media program the best that it can be for the students at Alto Park Elementary.”
