Friday morning the public was invited to honor the service and legacy of local law enforcement with the 2024 Rome/Floyd County Peace Officers Memorial Service.

The Peace Officer Memorial Service, which comes as a part of National Police Week, began at the Law Enforcement Complex Memorial Plaza and featured an honor roll that included the names of 20 law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty from 1874 to 2011.

Flowers were bestowed by members of the community to honor the life and legacy of the fallen in the memorial plaza.

National Police Week, which occurs each year during the week in which May 15 falls, recognizes the service and sacrifice of U.S. Law Enforcement. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

Rome/Floyd County Fellowship of Christian Peace Officers (FCPO) organizes the Annual Memorial Service and maintains the Memorial Plaza. Financial support is welcome; please contact the Rome Police Department for information on making a donation or purchasing an engraved brick for the plaza.
