Man charged with robbery

A Rome man has been arrested in a reported robbery on DeSoto Avenue Thursday.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

41-year-old Jonathan Torres forcibly took $300 in cash from a homeless woman, leaving visible marks on the victim.

Torres then ran and hid from the police.

He is charged with robbery by sudden snatching, battery, criminal trespass, obstruction of officers, and giving a false name.

Man charged with child cruelty

A 29-year-old Rome man is facing a 1st-degree child cruelty charge following an incident Thursday at his Cave Spring Road home.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Johnny Marshall Andrew Wheeler hit a woman’s hand and cell phone, which then struck a six-month-old child.

The incident occurred in the presence of a three-year-old child.

Wheeler is additionally charged with 3rd-degree cruelty to children, simple battery, and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.

Woman accused of making threats

A Silver Creek woman is accused of making threats against two Lindale women.

According to an arrest warrant and Floyd County Jail records:

31-year-old Sabra Daphne Lindsey sent the victims messages stating that she was going to kill them.

Lindsey is charged with two counts of terroristic threats and acts.

Report: Felon found with firearm

A West Rome man is facing felony charges following a probation compliance check at his Paris Drive home.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

31-year-old Devonta Marquayle White had a Smith and Wesson pistol, which was found in a backpack in his bedroom.

White is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and a probation violation.
