Woman charged in fatal crash on Alabama Highway

A Birmingham, Alabama woman has been charged with felony 1st-degree vehicular homicide in a wreck that claimed the lives of two people on Alabama Highway at Halls Valley Road Saturday.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

38-year-old Jamie Allison Smith is also charged with DUI, distracted driving, driving on the wrong side of the road, failure to maintain a lane, reckless driving, and driving with a suspended or revoked license.

According to the Georgia State Patrol’s preliminary investigation:

An eastbound Acura, driven by Smith, crossed over into the westbound lane, striking a commercial vehicle.

The impact caused the commercial vehicle to travel into the eastbound lane, striking a Nissan Altima head-on.

The driver and passenger of the third vehicle, identified as 31-year-old Ashley Jackson of Gardendale, Alabama, and 18-year-old Rico Jermaine English of Pinson were pronounced dead at the scene by the Floyd County Coroner.
