Man charged with child cruelty

A Silver Creek man was arrested at his Nelson Street residence Tuesday on five counts of 2nd-degree cruelty to children.

According to an arrest warrant and Floyd County Jail records:

31-year-old Frederick Jamal Hughes deprived the children in the home of safe and sanitary living conditions.

The residence had no running water, and a was missing a window.

The children had only mattresses to sleep on, and there was garbage piled on the front porch and around the house.

Man charged with identity theft, hindering the apprehension of a criminal

A Kingston man was booked into the Floyd County Jail Tuesday on felony warrants charging him with identity theft and theft of lost or mislaid property.

According to the warrant:

43-year-old Byron Brent Keeney was in possession of a woman’s EBT card after she had reported that it had been stolen and used without her authorization.

Keeney is also charged with hindering the apprehension of a criminal.

He allegedly aided and provided transportation for an individual who had two active warrants.

Keeney also fought with and obstructed an officer, according to the warrant.

Man facing meth trafficking charge

An East Rome man was jailed Tuesday on a drug trafficking charge.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

33-year-old Reginald Warren Diamond was found with approximately 70 grams of methamphetamine at a location on Alabama Highway.

He also had Viagra pills, digital scales, and packaging materials.

Diamond is additionally charged with possession of meth, possession of meth with the intent to distribute, possession of dangerous drugs, possession of drugs not in the original container, possession of drug-related objects, and a probation violation.

Traffic stop leads to drug arrest

An Adairsville man was arrested on drug charges Tuesday on North Broad Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Rome.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

A vehicle driven by 28-year-old Paul Connor Armstrong was stopped by police for a tag light violation.

The vehicle was searched following a K9 indication.

Psilocybin mushrooms, methamphetamine, and a glass pipe with meth residue were seized.

Armstrong is charged with possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, possession of meth, possession of drug-related objects, and no tag light.

Former inmate accused of trying to smuggle marijuana into prison

A Newnan man is accused of conspiring with others to bring contraband into the Floyd County Prison in May of 2023.

According to an arrest warrant:

43-year-old Paul Michael Lopez schemed with another inmate to have a woman on the outside leave the contraband at the Rome City Public Works.

The communications with the woman were recorded during video visits at the prison.

During a search of the public works site, a plastic bag was found hidden underneath a rock at the back gate.

It contained two packages of marijuana, weighing over 30 grams. 

Woman charged with cocaine possession

A St. Paul, Minnesota woman was arrested on Alabama Highway at Highway 100 in the Coosa area early Wednesday morning.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

28-year-old Diana Sandoval-Orozco was found with suspected cocaine.

She is charged with cocaine possession.
