House Bill 581 will be one of the topics of discussion when the Rome-Floyd County Joint Services Committee meets Tuesday morning.
Under the law, assessments on homesteaded properties cannot rise greater than the rate of inflation.
It also establishes automatic homestead tax exemptions for school system levies across the state, but it gives taxing authorities the option to opt out.
The Floyd County Board of Education recently announced that they will not opt out, meaning area residents will be able to take advantage of the full tax break.
Later this year, Rome and Floyd County voters will be able to vote on an extra 1-cent added to the sales tax, which would help defray property taxes across the board.
The joint services committee meeting begins at 9 a.m. in the Caucus Room, Suite 204 of the County Administration Building located at 12 East 4th Avenue.
The meeting is open to the public.
Other agenda items include a discussion about improvements on Chulio Road, parking agreements, and an update on the joint law enforcement center.
