The Floyd County Commission is expected to vote on a rezoning request for a new data center near Coosa High School when it meets Tuesday.
The Rome-Floyd County Planning Commission voted 5-2 earlier this month to recommend approval, with some conditions.
The first limits the property use to a data center or uses that directly support a data center.
The second condition is that exterior lighting be limited to dark-sky lighting to prevent light trespass onto adjacent properties.
Another condition is that the data center development shall not produce continuous sound that exceeds 65 decibels over any 30-minute period between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., nor shall the proposed data center produce a continuous sound that exceeds 55 decibels over any 30-minute period between 6 p.m. and 8 a.m.
Also Tuesday, the commission will conduct a public hearing for a rezoning and special use permit requests for a restaurant and customer service at 2045 Morrison Campground Road. Plans are for an open barn for a garden center and a closed barn for a café, but the planning commission is recommending denial.
Commissioners will also consider a rezoning from Heavy Industrial to Community Commercial for 4729 Alabama Highway, and a rezoning from Light Industrial to Suburban Residential at 68 Pierce Hill Road.
Both come with planning commission recommendations to approve.
Tuesday’s Floyd County Commission meeting starts at 6 p.m. at the county administration building on Fourth Avenue.
