Floyd County voters say “No” to a floating local option sales tax that would have gone to reducing the millage rate, and Rome voters elect two new city commissioners.
The extra penny tax to defray a portion of property taxes in Rome and Floyd County failed by a vote of 4,598 to 4,484.
The sales tax was approved by voters in Gordon and Chattooga Counties.
Meanwhile, Elaina Beeman was the top vote-getter for the Rome City Commission.
Jill Fisher and Vic Hixon were also elected.
Faith Collins, Toni Blanchard, Alvin Jackson, Will Byington, Pascha Burge, Marquita Davis, and Brenda Boyd were elected to the Rome City School Board.
Voters approved liquor by the drink and Sunday alcohol sales in unincorporated Floyd County.
In Cave Spring, Kristi Reed, Charles Jackson and Baker Harbin were all elected to the city council.
