Man charged with aggravated assault and battery
A Shannon man is accused of assaulting a woman at his Barron Road home on Tuesday of this week.
According to an arrest warrant and Floyd County Jail records:
25-year-old Ethan Jared Smith grabbed a woman’s shirt while she was wearing it and then used it in an attempt to strangle her.
He also pressed his head against the victim’s head with enough force to leave a visible bruise and swelling.
Smith was transferred from the Bartow County Jail to the Floyd County Jail on Wednesday to face charges of aggravated assault and battery under Georgia’s Family Violence Act.
Report: Felon found with pistol
A Rome man was arrested at his Cole Road home on Wednesday and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
72-year-old Arthur Dennie Champion was found with a tan pistol in his jacket pocket.
Champion is additionally being held on a probation violation.
