Former prison inmate facing multiple charges
A former inmate at the Floyd County Jail is facing multiple charges in connection with two separate incidents.
According to arrest warrants and other records at the Floyd County Jail:
30-year-old Anthony Jarrod McCoy of Atlanta conspired with three other offenders and one civilian to distribute 32 grams of methamphetamine, and 257 grams of marijuana in October of last year.
The drugs were left in a garbage can in front of the Rome-Floyd Recycling Center.
The drop was arranged by McCoy and the others using the phone system at the prison.
McCoy was also found with a smartphone/watch with a charger, a lighter, and just over 10 grams of marijuana during a search of his prison cell in December of 2022.
McCoy is charged with possession of items prohibited for inmates, conspiracy to violate Georgia’s Controlled Substances Act, the sale of methamphetamine, possession of meth and marijuana with the intent to distribute, and possession of drugs within 1,000 feet of a school.
Man charged with aggravated animal cruelty
A Silver Creek man has been arrested on a felony warrant charging him with aggravated cruelty to animals.
According to the warrant:
A Floyd County Police Officer had gone to a residence on Donahoo Road in an attempt to serve a warrant on another person and noticed a bulldog mix in a fenced-in front yard.
The dog appeared to be malnourished.
Its environment was limited to the front yard and front porch, which was completely covered in debris.
19-year-old Harley Dakota-Davidson Hicks said he had only been feeding the dog table scraps for about two weeks.
The water bowls on the front porch were bone dry.
Woman charged with felony shoplifting
A 33-year-old Rome woman has been arrested on a felony count of theft by shoplifting in connection with an incident on September 17.
According to an arrest warrant:
Sharleigh Ellena Watkins went into Dollar General on Redmond Circle, selected a backpack cooler, and then filled it with freezer food before leaving the store.
The warrant states that Watkins was convicted of misdemeanor shoplifting in 2019, and five separate convictions for shoplifting in 2021.
Report: Woman used another’s credit card to make purchases
A 38-year-old Rome woman has been jailed on a felony warrant charging her with financial transaction card fraud.
According to the warrant:
Amie Michelle Vaughn used someone else’s card to make purchases totaling more than $1,200 online and at various locations in Rome.
The transactions occurred between September 1 and September 19 of this year.
Woman charged with meth possession
A 36-year-old Rome woman was jailed early Thursday on drug charges.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
Courtney Anne West admitted to having drugs in her room on Dean Avenue during a welfare check.
A glass pipe and methamphetamine were in plain view in the room.
West is charged with possession of meth and possession of drug-related objects.
Man charged with meth possession, criminal trespass
A 38-year-old man was arrested after he was reportedly found with suspected methamphetamine Wednesday.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
Jonathan David Shepherd was arrested at a location on Capitoline Drive and charged with criminal trespass and possession of methamphetamine.
