The Gordon County Board of Commissioners has voted to extend a temporary moratorium on data centers.
The original 60-day moratorium was implemented in February.
It will now be extended until August 4 to give county officials time to study the issue since Gordon County has no specific regulations, ordinances, or codes pertaining to data centers.
“We want to make sure that whatever comes before us is accurate and solid,” said Gordon County Commission Chair Bud Owens. “We will protect our citizens.”
Commissioners also voted to extend a temporary moratorium on anaerobic digestion facilities, also until August 4.
“Our attorneys are working on what will be an iron-clad, very good, and very strict ordinance,” said County Administrator Jim Ledbetter.
Anaerobic digestion is a process in which organic industrial byproducts are converted into renewable natural gas.
