Friday morning saw the American flag hung in many forms in the Call to Duty Plaza outside of the former Joint Law Enforcement Center in downtown Rome. A large American flag hung from a crane across from the historic courthouse, another was carried by law enforcement officers and placed beside a wreath in front of the memorial, and many stood sewn to the uniforms of peace officers and honor guard. All served as a reminder and place of remembrance for those who gave themselves for their community and their duty.
Rotary Club President and Rome Public Information Officer Doug Walker led the ceremony, introducing pastors and law enforcement officers to the podium to pray and remember. The Honor Guard was also in attendance, performing taps on the bugle at the ceremony. The names of officers were said in remembrance, as members of the community joined officers at the Call to Duty memorial to lay a flower atop the stone bearing the name of the officer.
