-News Release-
The Floyd County Health Department will host a Think Pink Floyd breast cancer awareness event featuring free clinical breast exams on Tuesday, October 20, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., at the Floyd County Health Department, 16 E 12th St, Rome. Breast cancer information, refreshments, door prizes, games, and more will be provided.
“This is a free event, and no insurance is needed,” says Health Department Nurse Manager Mya Wooten, “however, some eligibility requirements apply. Women must be over 25 years of age to receive the exam, but women under 25 may still receive education about breast exams.”
“The free breast exams will be provided on a walk-in basis only. You may be eligible to use our BCCP (Breast and Cervical Cancer) program for a mammogram, and we can help you determine that or recommend alternatives.”
From 2020 through 2025, there were 78 deaths in Floyd County due to breast cancer. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women, but early detection through regular screenings can save lives.
“We’re committed to making preventive care accessible to everyone,” says Wooten. “This event removes financial barriers and empowers women to take charge of their health. Our healthcare professionals will provide clinical breast exams in a supportive, private environment.” Educational materials and resources on breast health and self-exams will also be available.
