The community is invited to join We The Church and Blood Assurance next week to support a young man in his fight against Leukemia.
You can donate blood on October 20 from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. during “Pints for Parker.”
“Parker Covington is a young man who grew up in the Lindale/Pepperell community,” said volunteer Kim Maxwell. “His family is much loved in this community, and he was recently diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, referred to as AML, for those who are not aware. He is currently being treated at Emory, and this is just a special event in honor of Parker, but also, Parker wanted to make sure the day is really not just about him. This is about anyone affected by any type of cancer, and any family who has ever experienced this.”
The NDMP Registry (formerly known as Be The Match), a non-profit focused on blood stem cell and bone marrow transplant, will also be on hand.
“We desperately need 18-35 year olds attending as well,” said Maxwell. “We need to have them participating in the registry for NDMP to see if you are a match to be a stem cell or bone marrow donor at some point—not only for Parker’s situation, but for anyone in need of that. This is simply a cheek swab collection, so it’s not anything invasive.”
Volunteers are also needed to help with check-in, hospitality, and event support throughout the day.
