Shorter University celebrated a memorable evening of inspiration and generosity at its eighth annual President’s Gala on Thursday, December 4.
This cherished tradition supports student scholarships and highlights the University’s mission of Transforming Lives through Christ.
This year’s Gala welcomed Baseball Hall of Famer and FOX MLB lead analyst John Smoltz as the keynote speaker.
Guests enjoyed a powerful address as Smoltz shared reflections from his celebrated baseball career, the lessons learned through perseverance, and the role of faith and character in shaping his life both on and off the field.
His message deeply resonated with attendees, offering encouragement that aligned beautifully with Shorter University’s values and Christ-centered mission.
The evening included special musical selections by the Shorter Chorale, under the direction of Dr. Bryan McDonald, bringing a special layer of beauty and worship to the evening.
Guests enjoyed a formal dinner, entertainment, and the fellowship of alumni, students, community partners, and friends of the University. Proceeds from the President’s Gala directly support student scholarships, providing vital resources that help equip students to pursue their calling in an environment grounded in faith, academic excellence, and service.
Shorter University President Dr. Don Dowless expressed his gratitude for the impact of the event, sharing, “We were honored to welcome John Smoltz to campus and grateful for the inspiring message he shared. His commitment to faith, integrity, and excellence reflects the very heart of our mission at Shorter. The night also featured an exclusive VIP reception, where guests enjoyed a meet-and-greet and photo opportunity with Smoltz prior to the main event.
