Dr. Eric Singleton
The Booth Western Art Museum is pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Eric Singleton as its new Executive Director, effective mid-July. Dr. Singleton brings over 25 years of experience working in the museum field.
“After a nationwide search, we are excited about this new chapter at the Booth Museum. Eric’s extensive experience, positive energy, and creativity make him the ideal person to lead us forward,” said Larri McClain, Georgia Museums President and Board Chair. “Additionally, his collaborative management style will ignite new ideas and excitement with our staff.”
Dr. Singleton joins the Booth Museum following his role as McCasland Chair of Cowboy Culture and Curator of Native American Art and Ethnology at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. He holds a Ph.D. from Oklahoma State University with a focus on History of the U.S. West (Native America), Latin America, and U.S. General History. In his current capacity, he oversees the Native American Art and Ethnology, Cowboy, and Rodeo collections. He has previously worked at the Gilcrease Institute of American History & Art and the Philbrook Museum of Art. He also currently serves on the Cheyenne and Arapaho Nation Museum Board and the Caddo Archeology Journal editorial board. He has mounted 26 exhibitions, is well-published, has been awarded federal and private grants, has won two exhibition-of-the-year awards, and has been nominated for, or won, four book awards.
Many years ago, Eric started as a museum volunteer, then as an intern, and has been consistently growing and learning.
“I am beyond thrilled to be the next Executive Director of the Booth Western Art Museum,” Singieton said. “I look forward to working hand-in-wand with the Museum’s amazing staff, the other institutions that make up Museum City, and also getting to know the Cartersville community. We are going to do great things at the Museum and I welcome everyone to put on their boots and come join us as we explore the Art of the American West and continue making this Museum a top ranked destination.”
