Rome City Schools has released its tentative Fiscal Year 2026-2027 budget, highlighting that the district’s actual operating budget totals approximately $86.9 million, while the larger overall budget figure includes the district’s existing fund balance and other designated funds.
The tentative budget projects $86,955,130 in total operating revenue for the General Fund, which includes local revenue, state funding, city appropriations, and federal sources.
The total figure of $105,455,130 shown in the budget includes the district’s projected beginning fund balance of $18.5 million carried over from previous years. District officials noted that the fund balance is not new spending, but existing reserves maintained to support long-term financial stability and district operations.
The tentative budget also includes separate funding categories outside the General Fund, including debt service, capital projects, federal programs, Pre-K funding, and school nutrition programs.
Rome City Schools projects ending the 2026-2027 fiscal year with the same $18.5 million projected fund balance, reflecting a balanced budget approach.
The FY27 budget had a public hearing and first reading at the May Rome City Schools Board Meeting and will have the second reading and be up for adoption at the June 16 board meeting.
